The Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps offers a verity of CPR and First Aid programs both for the community as well as the health care professional. Our agency is an official American Health & Safety Institute training center. (ASHI)
This program is designed for the lay person who can provide lifesaving care before professional help arrives. The CPR AED course is a video-based & instructor-led program that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use. Additionally, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants is also taught.
The Basic Life Support program is required for professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills. This is designed for personal who operate in-hospital or as pre-hospital care providers. This program mirrors the American Heart Association’s BLS for Health Care Providers program.
First aid is the assistance given to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening. It includes initial intervention in a serious condition prior to professional medical help being available. This program covers how to protect yourself from blood born pathogen contamination, how to assess an injured or ill person, how to control serious bleeding and other common skills.
Students learn more than just babysitting basics. They’ll learn the life and safety skills that any teen should have before babysitting. This is a 6 hour program that includes Babysitting as a Business, Child Care Essentials, Safety for the Sitter, Injury Management, Preventing Problem Behavior. Additionally, Adult, Child and Infant CPR & AED skills are added to this comprehensive program.
